the refurbishment includes the reuse of the re-valuable existing elements and the addition of new light and superimposed elements. since the new entrance door is located in one end, an itinerary is generated from the most private space to the most open and exposed. the idea of transit is incorporated.
the apartment is a sequence of linked spaces, in different materiality, defining three different environments. areas that correspond to different degrees of privacy and different intervention levels. it is a sequence of dematerialization from full to empty, from specific to abstract, from private to public.
interior space (transformation).
the interior space has been cleaned of the weakest and most accessory elements. the result is two large spaces where the rich textures of the pavements have been maintained, and the roofs have been exposed.
the new configuration is defined by furniture and light elements. wardrobes, shelves and platforms define new functional spaces, without compartmentalizing. furniture elements do not exceed 2,20 meters height, so the perception of the space above them is continuous. walls and re-crushed roofs texture is exposed above that horizon. the existing pavement (monochrome hydraulic mosaic) is reused, but it is transformed with the addition of new pieces shaped in mineral carpets that emphasize functional areas.
transition space (addition).
reversible space (interior-exterior) and functionally open. it has continuity with the other interior spaces and it also can be fully opened to the outside, merging with the terrace.
outside space (superimposition).
in the terrace is defined a protected space without building it.
a platform and a pergola juxtaposed define an environment. the horizontal plane becomes complex and turns into bench and wall. a unique material emphasizes its abstraction.
