Christine and juan carlos’ apartment

Refurbishment of an apartment, adapting it to the needs of the new inhabitants, a couple with a child.
The structural layout of the apartment defines two distinct halves: one very regular and well-oriented, facing the street, where the living room and bedrooms are located; and another irregular half, with limited natural light and a highly compartmentalized layout, where the service areas are concentrated.
The renovation focuses primarily on the service zone, with only minor interventions in the bedroom area. The aim is to create two large, interconnected central spaces that serve as the core from which the rest of the apartment is organized. In this way, the apartment preserves the original two-zone layout with distinct characteristics, while profoundly reimagining the way it is lived in.
In the interior zone, all existing partitions for the kitchen, bathroom, and laundry are removed to create an open-plan space. The new layout is defined by custom furniture elements for the kitchen, bathroom, and storage, resulting in a fluid, complex, and unique space. On the street-facing side, a few doors are repositioned and one partition wall is removed to create a spacious central living room, flanked by bedrooms on either side.
